Former Jury members:

Žiri 2012.

Irena Škorić is 28 year old film director, screenwriter and producer who had a breaktrough last year with her controversial erotic drama “7sex7”. But, that was not her first, and we are sure not the last film. She directer and produced over 30 short and medium length movies and 3 documentaries. She is a member of the croatian film director society. She wrote critics for movie magazines like Hollywood and Croatian movie chronicle. She participated on many domestic and foreign movie festivals and won 40 movie prizes. Her movies were shown on over 200 movie festivals. To shorten it up – she’s young, she’s blonde, she’s beautiful, she’s succesful, and she’s made for Trash Film Festival.

Ivan Goran Vitez (37) is also young, he’s not blonde though, and we wouldn’t dare to talk about his estetic value. That’s a job for female members of the Trash Society and Trash Society does not have female members. His first contact with the Trash Film Festival was a couple of years ago when his documentary “Small hands” in which he boldly spoke about croatian national movie festival in Pula was shown on TFF. That was the first and the only public showing of his film. But, that is nothing strange because Trash Society likes people from Varaždin, and Ivan Goran Vitez is from Varaždin because his mother was born in Varaždin. He always says that Varaždin is his second home, and after this years Trash Film Festival we are sure Varaždin will become his most favorite home. He made a real breaktrough last yeat with his movie “Šuma Summarum” which was by some media pronounced the best croatian trash film, but Trash Society decisively rejects that kind of assessment because it is well known that blockbusters like  “Overpunishment”, “Sun Tzu” and “Long Banana” are the best croatian trash movies of all time. Ivan Goran Vitez iz also known as the director of famous croatian sitcoms like “Rascals and princess” and “The Law”.

Stojan Matavulj

is an academic actor born in Novi Sad in 1961. He lived in Split in his early days, where he attended various kinds of schools. After that he disappeared without a clue, even though he has been seen a couple of times at Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. He enjoyed in graduating from the Academy and later in gathering his acting experience. In his last appearance in public he showed up in Varaždin in 1988, where he captured his American dream. He is employed in Croatian National Theatre as program protagonist and actor who interpreted many important roles (even the ones in local dialect). Globalization takes him to many places in Croatia and abroad where he acts and sometimes even directs. The peak of his career is, of course, this year?s enrolment in Expert?s Jury of Trash Film Festival.

Rajko Grlić – President of the jury

Having directed a number of films (Čaruga, U raljama života, Karaula…), Mr. Grlic received more than fifty international awards such as Grand Prix for best film and Best Director at Tokyo international film festival.

He is a lecturer at the University of Ohio, yet he visits Croatia often, especially in summer when he can be seen in Istria, since he is also the art director of the Motovun Film Festival. Mr. Grlic is involved in many film projects, latest being reviewing your “trash films” and pulling his own hair at the same time, of course.

Robert Knjaz – first on the right

The first on the right hand of Mr. Grlic is Robert Knjaz, tv genious who says he was a “naughty ad lazy student who never thought he might grow up to be a handsome young man with a cheeky moustache”. He was born in the same year Mr. Grlic graduated from the university.

Nowadays, he is a celebrity tv author, having produced programs like “Zaleđe”, “Svlačionica”, “Mjenjačnica”, “Koleđicom po svijetu”…

Borivoj Radaković

The founder of the controversial FAK festival, Borivoj Radakovic’s name is synonymous with the fall of postmodernism, which basically means that he uses the raw street language, filled with swearing and with little poetry and metaphor. Like with Mr. Knjaz, football culture plays a fundamental role in his life, which reflects in his work, “Sjaj Epohe” and “Dobrodošli u plavi pakao”.

Reviewing trash films is not his first experience with directors and actors. Mr. Radakovic is the author of several plays which have been performed at the Kerempuh theatre (“Dobro došli u plavi pakao”, “Miss nebodera za Miss svijeta”). He is very active as a translator, having translated such contemporary English authors as Hanif Kureishi ( “The Buddha of Suburbia” ) and Alex Garland ( “The Beach” ).

He lives and works in Zagreb.

Dubravko Mataković, (autobiografija za početnike 2)

I was born in 1959 in Ivankovo, west of Vinkovci, in private undertaking, the small craft. I had no childhood, the life was hard, TV sets were small black & white and there lived small people in there. Then someone has discovered that there were no small people in it. After that I went to school. There, in the school was boring. Then the Beatles set them apart. Then I finished my school and again enrolled another school. That school was also boring and I hardly waited to finish it. My professors hated me. Then another year passed and I enrolled to Art Academy. There, we were mostly drawing and I could relief from learning. The heating was good there and it was warm in winter, and we were drawing naked women. After I have finished that Academy I went straight to Army, the enemy one. For sure, I was forced to. There I had pretty much problems and my combat readiness was poor. After the Army again I hanged around and got married, and hell the war began! Then the war passed and I got 2 children, and not at once but one after another so that they are not twins now. In the meantime I was always drawing something, comics and something else worthless, the doctors said that it won’t be good, always sitting and drawing. So I sit and wrote a drama. There it is played in theater. I bought a flat TV set. In there, people are not only small but they are also flat. What about that?
